Bangor’s Youth Cycle Skills

North Down Cycling Club are again delighted to be associated with the Bangor Cycle Skills event, which focuses on children cycling safely. On Thursday 22nd school children from all the local schools will converge on Valentine’s Playing field to try their hand at a novel event which will test how skilled and safe they are at riding their bicycles. Clearly physical fitness and safety have been given a high profile recently and it is not surprising that the popularity of this event has grown and grown.

18 entered the race tonight on the Dam Road circuit, including a few welcome visitors. Perfect conditions for the 3 groups – 4 in the limit, 9 in the second and 5 in the scratch each separated by 4 minutes. With Alan Lavert puncturing shortly after the start it looked a bit dodgy for the scratch group making up the deficit and only by the end of the third lap was it clear that all the groups would come together. A record attendance of 24 members were based, for the third successive year, at Club de Pollentia, a large, spacious hotel set in several acres of gardens a couple of miles from Alcudia. Bokhara Supports Local Cycling

The North Down Cycling Club has again curried favour with Bangor’s Bokhara Restaurant, which is situated in King’s Street. This is the third year in succession that a recipe for success has been conjured up by the restaurant’s proprietor Jahirul Huqe, known to everyone as Joi, and the successful local club.

The mouth watering announcement was made at a recent function in the restaurant, to the obvious delight of all concerned. Afterwards the Bangor restaurateur expressed his pleasure at being once again associated with the local cycling. Certainly Flo Millar and Terry Nicoletti, representing the club at the official signing, were equally delighted to be linked with the Bokhara.

Another Podium Place for Laverty

‘I’m attacking on the first hill,’ was the confident remark of Alan Laverty before the Seamus McGreevy race in Dromore, on Saturday last. True to his word, on one of the most difficult circuits in the country, the strong Helen’s Bay rider did just as he had predicted, and in the company of training partner, Liam Curran, he established what turned out to be the winning move in this prestigious event.
