BANGOR COASTAL CHALLENGE A GREAT SUCCESS

Despite the inclement weather on Sunday over 700 cyclists took to the roads for the 8th Coastal Challenge charity cycle event. Organisers North Down Cycling Club was delighted with the turnout and the enthusiasm shown by the willing participants. Among the starters at the Sportsplex in Bangor was a Police Bicycle Unit with Constable Rose on board to keep a watchful eye on the proceedings. This was the first time in Northern Ireland that a Police Service cycle unit was deployed on an event such as the Coastal Challenge and it has been hailed as a success by the organisers.

Conditions, warm, sunny, still!! A great PB on this course from John, a great comeback ride from Deccy and a welcome first outing from Paul Brown. Thanks to Noel and Terry for marshalling. And the excuses: Harry and Mark on the tandem were good for a sub hour ride but for their super-tanker-like turning circle, oh, and the tractor which brought them to a dead stop in Kirkubbin.

Safe Cycling for Kids

With road safety being at the fore front of every parent’s agenda, the Bangor Cycle Skills event organised by North Down Cycling Club, is a must for all young road users. This event focuses on children cycling safely and will take place this year at Bloomfield Shopping Centre on the evening of Thursday 25th June. School children from all the local schools will converge on the parking area beside Marks and Spencers to try their hand at a variety of activities which will test how skilled and safe they are at riding their bicycles. Clearly physical fitness and safety have been given a high profile recently and it is not surprising that the popularity of this event has grown and grown.
