Irish Record for Rachel
Last weekend the Cycling Ireland Track Commission ran a selection event in Dublin to pick a development team to compete in the Meadowbank Grand Prix in Edinburgh next month. The inclement weather did hamper the cyclists in their efforts, but an outstanding ride by North Down Cycling Club’s Rachel Mitchell saw her equal the standard set by Cycling Ireland for the 200m, recording the fastest time of the day with 14.60 sec, to put her name in the record books as the first holder of the Junior National Women’s Record.
Gordons Have the Chemistry
North Down Cycling Club announced this week that they have linked up with Gordons, the High Street chain of pharmacists. When one hears of a cycling club linking up with a pharmacist, there may naturally be a number of questioning glances.
However, in a sport which is as physical as cycling and where crashes are common-place, there is a real need for first aid equipment in the form of plasters, dressings, bandages, sprays and creams. Mr Neil Gordon stated that he was very pleased to assist the club in this way and wished all its members every success in the future. Certainly, the North Down club is appreciative of the support of Gordons, but hopes that this is one item of support that it will rarely use.

North Down Cycle Skills Night
Over sixty kids descended on Bloomfield Shopping Centre last week’s annual North Down School’s Cycling Skills night. The school children were treated to a free bike ‘MOT’ courtesy of Bikeworks, Balloo, Bangor before attempting a variety of skills devised by club coaches, Noel Boyce and Alistair Irvine.
